Defence of Life and Property Bill 2006
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Defence of Life and Property Bill 2006 would allow people living in a home to use reasonable force against trespassers who appear intent on committing a serious crime, without being judged on whether they could have retreated first. It would provide protection from both criminal charges—including for killing or injuring someone—and civil claims for damages, where the force was justified.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide a full defence in criminal and civil law in cases where force is reasonably used by occupiers in dwellings to defend life or property against persons trespassing with criminal intent
