Building Societies (Amendment) Bill 2006

Would update the rules for building societies by widening their membership, lending, investment and financial-service powers, subject to Central Bank oversight. It would also make it easier for some mutual societies to convert into companies or be sold as part of that conversion, while retaining member approval and other safeguards.
