No. 33 of 2006Fluoride (Repeal of Enactments) Bill 2006
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would repeal the 1960 law that allows local authorities to add fluoride to public drinking-water supplies, ending water fluoridation in Ireland. Its sponsor argued that fluoride protects teeth mainly through direct contact, while swallowing too much may cause fluorosis and other health effects, and that stopping fluoridation elsewhere had not increased tooth decay.
