Defence (Amendment) Bill 2006
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Defence (Amendment) Bill 2006 would give the Government clearer legal authority to send Permanent Defence Force personnel overseas for official duties, training, military exercises, and humanitarian work after disasters or emergencies. It would update the rules for Irish participation in United Nations peace-support missions, including missions organised through regional bodies, while making all serving personnel liable for overseas service, subject to protections for some older recruits. Rapid-response forces could be assembled in advance, but operational deployment would still require the necessary UN resolution and, where appropriate, Dáil approval.
Formal long title
