Child Care (Amendment) Bill 2006
Public bill · Government · Presented
The measure would let foster parents and relatives who have cared for a child for at least five years apply for a court order giving them greater day-to-day authority, including consent for medical care and limited overseas travel, where this is in the child’s best interests. It would also extend childcare regulation and notification requirements to school-age services, while clarifying exemptions for some home-based carers. Other provisions would allow anonymised reporting of child-care court cases and rename and expand the role of the Special Residential Services Board as the Children Acts Advisory Board.
