Freedom of Information (Amendment) Bill 2006

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would expand freedom-of-information rights by automatically covering bodies such as An Garda Síochána and many publicly funded organisations, limiting their ability to rely on secrecy rules to withhold records. It would also remove fees for information requests, internal reviews and appeals, making it easier and cheaper for people to scrutinise public bodies.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Freedom of Information Acts 1997 and 2003 and to provide for related matters
