Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill 2006

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The proposal would make clear that the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs could make rules about traffic signs under the Official Languages Act 2003. It would also confirm that the existing road traffic law could not be interpreted as blocking or hindering those rules. The change matters because it would remove any doubt about the Government’s power to set language requirements for traffic signs, including their use in Irish.
