Control of Exports Bill 2007

The Control of Exports Bill 2007 would give the Minister power to regulate or prohibit the export of specified goods and technology, including military-related items, and to control brokering and technical assistance such as training, repairs and consultancy. It would establish export-licensing procedures, inspection and enforcement powers, and offences carrying penalties of up to €10 million and/or five years’ imprisonment, while replacing the 1983 legislation and requiring an annual report to the Oireachtas.

Bill entitled an Act to provide for the control of the exportation of goods and technology and the control of the provision of brokering activities and technical assistance, to provide for the control of technical assistance related to certain military end-users as provided for by the Council of the European Union in the Council Joint Action of 22 June 2000 and for the control of arms brokering as provided for by the Council of the European Union in the Council Common Position 2003/468/CFSP of 23 June 2003 and to provide for related matters
