Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) (Amendment) Bill 2007

The Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) (Amendment) Bill 2007 would make it an offence to solicit or pressure a child or mentally impaired person to commit a sexual offence, with penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment, and would strengthen related protections in court and bail proceedings. It would also broaden child sexual exploitation offences and create a new “grooming” offence covering meeting, or travelling to meet, a child after repeated communications for sexual exploitation, punishable by up to 14 years’ imprisonment.
