Local Government (Roads Functions) Bill 2007

The Local Government (Roads Functions) Bill 2007 would transfer responsibility for vehicle registration certificates and related regulations from the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to the Minister for Transport. It would also allow money from the Local Government Fund to cover certain transport-related costs, including non-national roads, motor-vehicle tax administration, driver-licence issuing and vehicle records. For railway projects affecting public roads, approval would generally come from the Minister for Transport.
