Employment Law Compliance Bill 2008
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Employment Law Compliance Bill 2008 would establish the National Employment Rights Authority and a Director responsible for promoting and enforcing workers’ rights. Inspectors would gain stronger powers to enter workplaces, examine records, require information, investigate suspected breaches and order employers to pay wages or compensation they owe, with higher fines and possible publication of offenders’ names. Employers would have to display information about workplace rights, keep detailed employment records and return employees’ personal documents when their jobs end.
