Chemicals Bill 2008

Public bill · Government · Presented

The Chemicals Bill 2008 would create a single framework for controlling chemicals, including their manufacture, use, sale, import, export, transport, storage, testing, labelling and packaging, while implementing key European rules on dangerous chemicals, detergents and REACH. It would give the Health and Safety Authority and other agencies stronger inspection and enforcement powers, including improvement plans, fines, product withdrawals and immediate bans where chemicals pose serious risks to people or the environment. It would also protect employees who report breaches and allow the public to be informed about serious violations.
