Registration of Lobbyists Bill 2008
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The bill would create a public register of paid lobbyists and require them to disclose who they represent, what issues they are trying to influence and which public bodies they contact. It would set ethical rules, restrict lobbying by certain public officials, and allow investigations and penalties for false information, making government decision-making more transparent while preserving access to officials.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide in the public interest for the registration of paid lobbyists and, to the greatest extent possible consistent with the public interest in free and open access to central and local government, for the disclosure of their activities, and to provide for related matters
