Stem-Cell Research (Protection of Human Embryos) Bill 2008

The proposal would ban creating human embryos for destructive research, human cloning, and research that damages or destroys embryos, including work using cells derived from such research abroad. It would also ban creating or researching human–animal hybrids, and supplying eggs, embryos or derived cells for these purposes. Breaches could lead to fines of up to €250,000 for organisations and €5,000 for individuals, with managers potentially personally liable.

Bill entitled an Act to prohibit the creation of human embryos for research, to prohibit all research involving or deriving from the destruction of human embryos and to provide for related matters.
