Seanad Electoral (Panel Members) (Amendment) Bill 2008

The proposal would update the rules for registering organisations connected with the Seanad’s administrative panel. It would automatically register the Association of County and City Councils, the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland and the Local Authority Members Association. Other organisations could be registered only if their work consists wholly or mainly of voluntary charitable or similar social services. The change also reflects the renaming of the former General Council of Councils and adds the local authority members’ association to the register.
