European Parliament (Irish Constituency Members) Bill 2009
Public bill · Government · Presented
Moves Irish MEPs’ pay from the national budget to the European Parliament’s common salary system, while allowing MEPs re-elected in 2009 to keep their existing Dáil-linked salary. It keeps the existing pension scheme running for accrued and former members, updates conflict-of-interest restrictions, sets tax rules for European Parliament salaries, and lets the Oireachtas Commission process certain payments to MEPs’ local assistants on a reimbursed basis. Over time, it is expected to reduce national spending on MEP salaries and pensions.
Formal long title
