Financial Emergency Measures in the Public Interest (No. 2) Bill 2009
Public bill · Government · Presented
The measure would cut pay for public servants, including civil servants, gardaí, defence personnel, local-authority and health workers, teachers, university staff, TDs, senators and certain senior office holders. Reductions would range from 5% for salaries up to €30,000 to 15% for salaries of €200,000 or more; related allowances would also be reduced, but expense reimbursements would be protected. It aims to reduce the public-service pay and pensions bill by more than €1 billion in 2010, with limited exemptions, safeguards for some pension calculations and annual reviews of whether the cuts remain necessary.
