Land and Conveyancing Law Reform (Review of Rent in Certain Cases) (Amendment) Bill 2010
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would let the Government temporarily stop “upwards-only” rent reviews from applying to existing business leases when a serious economic downturn makes the existing or increased rents unfair for tenants. An order could cover particular types of premises or areas, last for up to 24 months, and would allow rents to fall, rise or stay the same when reviewed. It matters because the 2009 reforms already protected newer leases, but not the many older leases that could put businesses and jobs at risk.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend provisions of the Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009 dealing with the review of rent in certain cases; and to provide for connected matters.
