Electoral Representation (Amendment) Bill 2010
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Electoral Representation (Amendment) Bill 2010 would require a by-election to fill a vacant Dáil seat within six months of the vacancy. The Dáil could order the election sooner, but if it did not, the Ceann Comhairle would have to instruct the Clerk of the Dáil to begin the process automatically. The proposal aims to prevent seats being left vacant for political reasons and to ensure that every constituency remains fully represented. It was introduced as a Private Member’s Bill by Phil Hogan.
Formal long title
