Sunbeds Regulation Bill 2010
Public bill · Private Member · Presented
The Sunbeds Regulation Bill 2010 would prevent anyone under 18 from being offered or allowed to use a sunbed, except where it is used for medical treatment under a doctor’s supervision. It would allow the Minister to set rules requiring businesses to supervise sunbed use, provide and display health-risk information, and make protective eyewear available and worn. Health Service Executive officers could inspect businesses, examine records and equipment, and seize items where necessary. Breaches could lead to a fine of up to €5,000, up to six months’ imprisonment, or both; the aim is to reduce children’s exposure to ultraviolet radiation and their later risk of skin cancer.
