Petroleum (Exploration and Extraction) Safety Bill 2010

The measure would create a safety regime for petroleum exploration, extraction, processing, transport and decommissioning, overseen by the Commission for Energy Regulation. Operators would need approved safety plans and permits, report incidents, and comply with inspections and improvement or shutdown orders; the Commission could impose fines and operators would help fund its work through levies.
