The Act updates the rules for people in criminal proceedings who may have a mental disorder, allowing courts to send them for assessment and treatment, including as outpatients. It also lets the Review Board release detained patients subject to treatment or supervision conditions, with people who seriously breach those conditions able to be returned to a designated centre.
