Whistleblowers Protection Bill 2010
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Whistleblowers Protection Bill 2010 would protect employees who reasonably and honestly report suspected crimes, breaches of legal duties, miscarriages of justice, dangers to health or safety, environmental damage, or attempts to conceal such matters. Reports could be made to the employer, relevant public authorities, a Minister, a responsible person, or—in exceptionally serious cases—someone else. Employees who make a protected report would generally not face legal claims because of it, and employers would be barred from punishing, discriminating against or dismissing them for reporting. Affected employees could complain and seek steps such as reinstatement or compensation.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide protection from civil liability or penalisation to employees who make certain protected disclosures in relation to the affairs of their employers and to provide for related matters
