Criminal Justice (Community Service) (Amendment) (No.2) Bill 2011
Public bill · Government · Presented
Courts would have to consider community service whenever an offence would otherwise merit up to 12 months in prison, while still being able to use it for more serious offences. A Probation Service assessment would normally be required, and community service could be ordered only where suitable work is available and the offender agrees. The Bill would also update procedures so Circuit Courts could manage, vary and enforce orders, with the Government expecting fewer prison costs over time.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Criminal Justice (Community Service) Act 1983; and to provide for related matters.
