Registration of Wills Bill 2011
Public bill · Private Member · Presented
The Registration of Wills Bill 2011 would create a national register recording where a person’s will is held, without recording the will’s contents. People or their solicitors could register wills and later update the details; the information would remain private during the person’s lifetime and could be searched after their death, helping families find the correct will. The register would be run through the Civil Registration Service, with procedures for corrections, appeals and penalties for officials who improperly refuse to register a will.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the extension of the Civil Registration Service to the registration of certain information regarding wills and for those purposes to revise the law relating to the Civil Registration Service and to provide for related matters
