The Electoral (Amendment) (Political Funding) Bill 2011 would tighten political donation rules by lowering donation limits, requiring companies and other organisations giving more than €200 to register publicly, and making more donations reportable. Political parties would have to publish annually audited accounts or risk losing State funding. Parties failing to field at least 30% women and 30% men as general-election candidates would lose half their State funding, rising to a 40% target after at least seven years.
