Education (Amendment) Bill 2012

The Education (Amendment) Bill 2012 would clarify schools’ responsibility for providing speech-therapy services, abolish the Educational Disadvantage Committee, and allow the Minister to set procedures—after consultation—for appointing, suspending and dismissing teachers and other staff. It would also permit limited employment of unregistered teachers in exceptional cases, allow the Teaching Council to require continuing training and other conditions when teachers renew registration, clarify its role in accrediting teacher-education programmes, and repeal legislation governing a fund that has been fully spent.
