Broadcasting (Television Licence Fees Recovery) Bill 2012
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require paid television providers—including cable, satellite and internet services—to share limited customer information with An Post, which collects television licence fees, when reasonably needed to identify homes or businesses that may have an unlicensed television. It aims to reduce licence-fee evasion, increase funding for public-service broadcasting and make the system fairer for people who pay, while limiting data use to what is necessary; the measure would expire after two years.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the provision of data by television broadcasting service providers for the purpose of assisting in the recovery of television licence fees; and to provide for connected matters
