Public bill · Government · Presented
The Civil Registration (Amendment) Bill 2012 would allow established secular, ethical and humanist organisations to nominate members to conduct legally recognised marriage ceremonies. Eligible organisations would generally need at least 50 members, five years’ continuous existence and charitable tax-exempt status, and would have to select, train and accredit suitable solemnisers. It would also give the Registrar General powers to check, refuse, cancel or temporarily authorise registrations, with appeals available.
