Equal Status (Amendment) Bill 2012
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Equal Status (Amendment) Bill 2012 would require most new private insurance policies, including motor, life, critical illness and income protection insurance, to use the same prices and benefits for men and women from 21 December 2012. Existing contracts would generally remain covered by the old rules, and insurers could still use gender information internally for risk assessment and pricing. It would also give people 42 days, rather than 28, to restart an unresolved equality complaint after mediation fails.
