Employment Equality (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2012
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would generally prevent employers from forcing people to retire at 65 or older, provided they meet any necessary health requirements to continue working. Exceptions would be allowed only where compulsory retirement is a proportionate way of achieving a legitimate aim, such as a properly justified workplace or public-policy objective. It would amend employment equality rules to strengthen protection against age discrimination and remove an existing exception.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make further provision for the promotion of equality between employed persons by prohibiting the compulsory retirement of persons at the age of 65 years of age except in limited circumstances
