Criminal Justice (Aggravated False Imprisonment) Bill 2012

The measure would create a specific offence for criminal organisations that hold someone hostage to force another person to carry out a theft, commonly known as a “tiger kidnapping”. It would allow a life sentence and generally require at least 10 years in prison, with exceptions for exceptional circumstances, guilty pleas or substantial help identifying the organisation.
