Criminal Justice (Spent Convictions and Certain Disclosures) Bill 2012
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Bill would allow certain adult convictions to become “spent” after a conviction-free period, helping people move on from past offending when applying for most jobs or answering questions about their record. Generally, up to two convictions could qualify: periods range from three years for some fines to seven years for a 12-month prison sentence, but sexual offences, serious offences, sentences over 12 months and some sensitive jobs, licences and work with children or vulnerable adults would remain excluded.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to make provision for the limitation of the effect of certain criminal convictions in certain circumstances and after certain periods of time; to amend the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 and the Garda Síochána Act 2005; and to provide for related matters
