Access to Cancer Treatment Bill 2012

The Access to Cancer Treatment Bill 2012 would require the HSE to provide cancer medicines approved by the European Medicines Agency when a registered doctor certifies that a patient needs them. The Health Minister could set rules, consult cancer specialists and health agencies, and make the final decision on whether a particular medicine should be provided, aiming to improve access to treatments considered necessary and consistent with best medical practice.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to ensure the provision by the Health Service Executive of all prescribed medicinal products necessary for the treatment of cancer in line with best practice and upon approval of the European Medicines Agency.
