Statute of Limitations (Amendment) (Home Remediation-Pyrite) Bill 2012
Public bill · Private Member · Presented
The proposal would change the time limit for homeowners to take legal action over pyrite damage. Rather than starting when damage is first noticed, the deadline would begin only after an approved independent engineer certified that pyrite was present in the house. This would give affected homeowners more time to pursue claims, important because pyrite damage can take years to appear and repairs can be extremely expensive.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Statute of Limitations, 1957 to enable householders whose houses have been damaged by pyrite to institute a claim within a period of time commencing when the presence of pyrite within the house has been certified by an engineer
