Betting (Amendment) Bill 2012
Public bill · Government · Presented
The Betting (Amendment) Bill 2012 would update betting law to cover online and other electronic betting, requiring remote bookmakers and betting intermediaries to obtain licences and pay a €5,000 annual duty. It would strengthen checks on applicants and company officers, create public registers of licensed operators, and allow licences to be suspended or revoked for wrongdoing. Courts could also restrict advertising, sponsorship, banking services and access to illegal betting websites, while unlicensed operators could face fines or imprisonment.
