Motor Vehicle (Duties and Licences) Bill 2012

The Motor Vehicle (Duties and Licences) Bill 2012 would put into permanent law motor-tax increases introduced in December 2011. From 1 January 2012, tax would rise for private cars, with the biggest increases for lower-emission cars in Bands A and B; rates for other cars, goods vehicles and trade-plate licences would generally rise by 7.5%. It would also update the tax rates for vintage vehicles and align definitions of emissions, passenger vehicles and motor caravans with vehicle-registration-tax rules.
