Health and Social Care Professionals (Amendment) Bill 2012

The Bill updates the system regulating 12 health and social care professions, including social work, physiotherapy, psychology and radiography. It allows the Minister to fill professional vacancies on the regulatory council while registration boards are being established, and gives those boards responsibility for assessing qualifications gained abroad, including under EU rules, with appeal rights and time limits for decisions. It also updates registration requirements for people returning to practice or already working during the transition, permits certain temporary European service providers to use Irish professional titles, and increases fines for some offences.
