National Archives (Amendment) Bill 2012

The National Archives (Amendment) Bill 2012 would reduce the waiting period for transferring government department records to the National Archives from 30 years to 15 years, making them available to the public sooner. It would apply the same 15-year period to records from commissions of investigation and tribunals of inquiry, and would come into force five years after being passed to allow time for the changeover.

Bill entitled an Act to amend the National Archives Act 1986 by providing for the transfer to the National Archives of Departmental records which are more than 15 years old; to make consequential amendments to other statutes; and to provide for related matters
