Protection of Life in Pregnancy (Amendment) (Fatal Foetal Abnormalities) Bill 2013
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposed law would allow a pregnancy to be ended where the foetus has a medical condition that makes survival outside the womb impossible. An obstetrician and a specialist in care around birth would have to examine the woman and jointly confirm the condition, with the procedure carried out by an obstetrician in an approved institution.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to permit medical treatment leading to termination of pregnancy in situations where the foetus has a fatal abnormality such that it is incompatible with life outside of the womb.
