Critical Utilities (Security of Supply) Bill 2013

The Critical Utilities (Security of Supply) Bill 2013 would protect mains water and electricity supplies by making it an offence to persuade utility workers or contractors to disrupt them, or to take industrial action that causes an interruption. It would not remove the rights to strike or picket, but would require such action not to interrupt essential supplies; serious offences could lead to fines or up to five years’ imprisonment.

Bill entitled an Act to provide for the security of supply of critical utilities, those being water and electricity and for that purpose to make it an offence for a person to induce another to cause an interruption to the supply of a critical utility and to also make it an offence for a person to engage in industrial action which causes an interruption to the supply of a critical utility and to provide for related matters
