Public Holidays (Lá na Poblachta) Bill 2013
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would make 24 April an annual public holiday, called Lá na Poblachta, with the day moved to the following Monday when it falls at a weekend, except around Easter when it would fall on the preceding Friday. It would establish Bord Lá na Poblachta to organise and fund free commemorative events across all 32 counties, focusing on Ireland’s struggle for independence and the ideas linked to the 1916 Rising. The board would have 12 members, supported by a state-funded Lá na Poblachta fund, and would be required to publish annual reports and audited financial information.
