Employment Equality (Amendment) Bill 2013
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The bill would add gender identity to the list of protected grounds in employment equality law, so people could not be treated unfairly because their gender identity differs from their legal sex. It would also widen the law’s protection against discrimination based on civil status and sexual orientation in jobs, training, and membership of certain organisations. It matters because it would give clearer legal protection to transgender people and strengthen equal treatment at work and in related settings.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Employment Equality Acts 1998 to 2011 and thereby extend the general definition of discrimination to include discrimination on the grounds of gender identity, as well as to extend general protection against discrimination on the basis of civil status, gender identity or sexual orientation in, and in connection with, employment, vocational training and membership of certain bodies
