Maternity Protection (Members of the Houses of the Oireachtas) Bill 2013

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Female members of Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann would be entitled to at least 18 weeks’ maternity leave, with up to eight additional weeks available if they choose. Leave could be postponed if the baby is in hospital, while the member would continue receiving her full salary but could not claim work-related expenses during the leave. The measures would create a clear maternity-leave arrangement for elected representatives, subject to written notice and medical confirmation.
