Retention of Newborn Screening Cards Bill 2013

The proposal would allow health agencies to keep and reuse information from newborn bloodspot screening cards collected since 1966, rather than being restricted to the original screening purpose. The Health Minister could set permitted additional uses by regulation, but only where they are needed to prevent or reduce a serious and immediate threat to public health, public safety, or someone’s life or health. It would take effect immediately after enactment.
