Scrap and Precious Metal Dealers Bill 2013

The Scrap and Precious Metal Dealers Bill 2013 would require dealers to record sellers’ identities and detailed information about precious or certain scrap-metal transactions, keep goods for 30 days, and retain records for five years. It would give Gardaí stronger powers to inspect dealers’ premises and records, trace stolen metal and seize suspected stolen goods. Dealers could face fines, imprisonment and loss of their licence for false records, failing to cooperate or handling stolen metal.
