In Camera Rule in Childcare and Family Law Proceedings Bill 2013

The proposal would allow accredited journalists, lawyers and other approved people to attend certain childcare and family-law hearings, access relevant documents, and report proceedings or court decisions, provided children and other parties cannot be identified. It would also let parties bring a support person and allow information to be shared with authorised inquiries or investigations, balancing greater openness and accountability with privacy and child protection.

Bill entitled an Act to amend section 29 of the Child Care Act 1991, as amended by the Child Care (Amendment) Act 2007 and section 46(2) of the Child Care (Amendment) Act 2011 to deal with the application of the in camera rule under the Child Care Act 1991 and to amend section 40 of the Civil Liability and Courts Act 2004 to deal with the application of the in camera rule in certain family law proceedings
