Reform of Judicial Appointments Procedures Bill 2013
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Bill would make judicial appointments more transparent, merit-based and independent of political influence, while requiring candidates to demonstrate legal experience, integrity, impartiality, and knowledge of human rights and equality law. It would change the appointments board’s membership, increase lay representation, support greater diversity, reduce the recommended shortlist from seven to three, allow advice on judicial promotions, and require the Government to publish reasons for its appointments.
Formal long title
