Child Care (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2013

The proposal would increase the maximum fine to €100,000 for breaking childcare rules, obstructing authorised inspections, or refusing inspectors access to premises. Courts would consider the seriousness of the breach, the size of the operation and whether it has been corrected, and could also ban someone from running a pre-school or school-age service. Breaking that ban could lead to another €100,000 fine, up to two years in prison, or both.
