Down's Syndrome (Equality of Access) Bill 2013
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The Down’s Syndrome (Equality of Access) Bill 2013 would legally recognise Down’s syndrome as a “low incidence” disability in education. It would require schools to provide the specified number of resource teaching hours to pupils with Down’s syndrome and pupils with other low-incidence disabilities listed in a Department of Education circular, rather than relying only on departmental guidance. The measure would take effect immediately if enacted.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to afford statutory recognition to Down's Syndrome as a low incidence disorder, to ensure that adequate provision is made for the resource teaching hours allocated to persons with Down's Syndrome and for that purpose to give statutory effect to a Department of Education and Skills Circular on the level of resource teaching hours and to provide for related matters.
